Over at the blog of Jason Delmore, the product manager for ColdFusion, he posted a way to modify Excel Spreadsheets with ColdFusion. Very cool.

Now what you say; there are even product managers that use their own product :-)

Public Displays and acoustic irradiation of locations

Regensdorf, 5th of November 2007 – The Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) has assigned InciteMedia with the conception and realisation of a Digital Signage network including the acoustic irradiation of the corresponding locations to transport a new and at the same time necessary emotionality into the customer zones of the ZKB branch network. 7 strategically important locations shall be equipped until March 2008. The further rollout to a total of 50 branches will take place until end of 2008. Within the total project volume of approx. 2 Million Swiss Franks, the utilisation of the central DigitalSignageHub-Software is also included. The technical realisation inclusive after sales support is done in cooperation with the new cooperation partner Fujitsu Services.

With flat panels respectively public displays and a corresponding acoustic irradiation of the locations, ZKB wants to transport the necessary emotion into the service counter- and consulting areas of the ZKB branch network. Information will be displayed at the place where they are demanded. Through the creation of modern worlds of experience, the offer to the customer gets more perceptive and emotional. An increasingly centralised management of marketing- and sales campaigns shall ensure the consistent advertising message within the branches of the Zürcher Kantonalbank.

Primed for the future
„The newly pursued path outlines the positioning of the ZKB as an innovative and future-oriented bank. The public displays are vitalising the customer zones and shall be part of the corporate appearance of the Zürcher Kantonalbank”, comments Aldo Hitz, director of communication private customers of ZKB. The displays are primarily regarded as an additional communication channel from the bank to the customer.

In a first step, the public displays will be rolled out within the competence- and customer support areas incl. the two-zones-banks. During this first phase, especially the waiting times within the customer- and self service areas shall be reduced. Instead of a nervous flickering of the displays, the customers shall be entertained with emotional advertising spots and be supplied with useful product information.

The public displays are an eye catcher for the entering customer in a ZKB branch. The program should be interestingly and informatively assembled for the customer with various animations, video-sequences, pictures, news blocks and text tickers. With the help of the DigitalSignageHub-Software of InciteMedia (eContentPark), the contents can be displayed differently according to weekday, daytime and according to region and positioning of the displays.

Thereby, the management of the displays as well as the data storage is centralised. Life-data-elements like news in picture and text as well as actual events can be adopted into the program on short term, and they establish actual references.

Not something to make fun off, but something to learn from. Namely, how fast and responsive After Sales Support should be.

Anyhow, here is the story by the way of “ChannelWebNetwork“:

Today, in Manhattan, with what seemed like millions of holiday shoppers and revelers walking the city streets, a 10-story digital advertisement for CNN - - using Flash - - just out and out crashed in the middle of the lunch hour.

The sign, owned and managed by Clear Channel, posted the all-too-familiar Flash error message and just hung there for about 20 minutes. Ten stories above Broadway. Staring down at thousands and thousands of passersby.

Then, someone in the IT department had the good sense to reboot the thing.

Within a few minutes of rebooting, another moving advertisement began scrolling. What was the new ad for?

Adobe.

We are happy to inform that we are about to release the next version of our Digital Asset Management (DAM) “eContentPark” in the coming days. Version 2.5 incorporates over 100 improvements and over 20 new features. Along with over 120 changes we also added a new license politic.

eContentPark License changes

As you might all know, license policies are always a decision that takes a lot of time and one should take into consideration the targeted market. eContentPark already offers the best value on the Digital Asset Management market with its current offering consisting not only of a digital repository for media files but also a build in CMS (Content Management System) and a superior way how it handles these data.
We wanted to make it even easier for individuals and organizations to organize their digital assets professionally but without a big financial entry point. Also, we are not in favor off user limitations and wanted to keep it that way.

That said we are happy that we can now offer the following 3 licenses.

eContentPark Community Edition
The Community Edition is the free version of eContentPark. That means you are free to use it as long as you want and can store up to 10000 assets on one domain in the digital repository. This is the perfect solution if you already deploy a ColdFusion Server and own an Oracle database license. Since you can also upgrade to store more then 10000 assets there is no reason why you should not deploy it right now. You can grab your free copy over at http://www.econtentpark.com/ once version 2.5 is out.

eContentPark Professional Edition
Bundled with ColdFusion 8 and an Oracle database license and space of up to 50000 assets on 3 domains within your digital repository, the Professional Edition is our best selling Edition and allows for rapid deployment for all your digital assets. The Professional Edition is the perfect fit for any organization that wants to store and retrieve digital assts in the most effective way and relay on enterprise technologies.

eContentPark Enterprise Edition
Targeted at ISP’s, Enterprise Organizations, OEM’s or organization that want to have no limitations at all we offer our Enterprise Edition. This license is suitable for hosting companies or organizations with multiple domains.

You can find out more about the license over at http://www.econtentpark.com/.

Following are some of the most important new features and changes. Please note, that there are over 120 changes and that we picked, what we think, most notable ones.

Digital Signage Add-On
The Digital Signage Add-On, which enables our customers to publish any content stored within eContentPark to In-Store-Screens, has gotten a complete overhaul. The user interface has been improved as such that you can edit your play lists, add content easily and publish with much less interactions. Also a much improved workflow system has been integrated. Please note, that the updated module is build with the latest AJAX functions from ColdFusion 8 and Fusebox 5.5.

Upload Scheduler
The Upload Scheduler has been a high demand feature from our customers and we are happy that we could include it in this release. With the Upload Scheduler you can set up a scheduler to automatically import any assets into eContentPark on a scheduled basis. Adding assets to eContentPark is easy since you can use eMail, FTP or your current file system as an import location. Thus adding an additional layer of interaction with your existing workflow.

Sync your Digital Media Repository
If you are running more then one media repository and want to sync between them you had to script this yourself or exchange the data in the database system “somehow”. Now, with the new release of eContentPark you and your users will be able to easily share any assets with each other across different eContentPark installations!

As an example; User “Joe” in New York needs to send a video file to his coworker “Jane” in Paris. With any other system, “Joe” will need to get the video file from the Repository and either email Jane the file or upload it to a FTP server or even worse burn the file to a CD and snail mail it to Jane.
Enter the new version of eContentPark! Joe simply “sends” the file to Jane (by entering her email address), “Jane” then needs to approve that “Joe” can send her a file and within minutes “Jane” gets notified and sees the video file in her folder.

eContentPark keeps itself updated
We also build in an eContentPark Update function. Thus your installation will keep itself updated all the time. Of course, it will not automatically install the updates for you, but will inform you of any updates.

Upload in general
We have changed the uploading as such that one can upload any kind of media without having to know the media type (previously you had to go into documents to add a document or chose the image tab to upload images).

Also, we have added the possibility to upload an archive (zip file) and eContentPark will import any content and even recreate any folder structure that are found within the zip file.

Convert images online
As an added value you can now also convert any image files online. Want to reformat your existing file into a png? No, problem, it only takes a click and you are done.

Runs on Adobe ColdFusion 8
Adobe released ColdFusion 8 earlier this year. Of course, eContentPark runs perfectly on ColdFusion 8. As a matter of fact, you will want to run eContentPark on ColdFusion 8, since it performs 30% faster; plus eContentPark 2.5 makes use of some ColdFusion 8 only features!

We are sure that our customers will like the added functionality and that it will increase their quality time with this new release.

eContentPark - the brilliantly simply incredible powerful way to manage your digital assets

eContentPark is the first web based application designed to let you manage all your digital assets, digital signage network and websites in one solution.

Virtually every aspect of your business - ideas, results, plans and forecasts - is stored as information somewhere in your computer systems. Managed effectively, this information is the most valuable asset you possess. But when the information about your business is managed poorly, your company is unable to take advantage of new market opportunities, retain and upsell to your customer base, and build strong relationships with your partners.

With eContentPark, your information can be collected, consolidated, verified, filtered, mined and always be available and secure. And eContentPark does all this while requiring less hardware and fewer administrators, for the lowest overall cost of ownership. A powerful solution like eContentPark will achieve significant efficiency gains as well as consistency throughout the organization.

GENEVA, Switzerland, November 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ –
Netnetnet.tv, Inc http://www.netnetnet.tv (nnnv.pk and wjg.f) is pleased to
announce that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Spanish digital
media signage company Retail Media to acquire a substantial interest in the

Retail Media, one of the pioneers of in-store media in Europe, started
their activities in 2003. Rapid expansion has made them the largest
in-store digital media signage network in Spain with more than 1,600 LCD
screens in operation throughout every province within the country. The
Retail Media network is unique within Europe through its ability to
interact with consumers through their purchases. This makes the screens an
ideal vehicle to conduct in-store promotions for advertisers.

Netnetnet is extremely happy that the current management of Retail
Media will continue to remain with the group as it is a natural entrance
strategy for them to an international group.

Retail Media in conjunction with netnetnet.tv have began preparations
for a permanent expansion program to increase the groups’ exposure to the
number of “eyeballs” that are able to access the digital signage network.

The signing of this LOI is another important step in netnetnet’s plan
to become a global player in the out-of-home media advertising market. This
agreement is another strategic step towards providing critical mass to both
local and international advertisers.

Netnetnet.tv continues to work solidly to build up a network throughout
Europe, Asia and the Americas’ and will continue to announce further
contracts and letters of intent and joint venture agreements.

Most of us bloggers do blog because we think we have something interesting to write. Most of us don’t earn money from it and do it in their free time.

Just as we posted some summarization of the Adobe MAX 2007 session in Barcelona we attended, we simply wanted to inform those who had no chance to attend the sessions.

In the same spirit we have written a summary on “Search Engine Optimization by Craig Hordlow”. Now, what is very rewarding about this post is that Craig Hordlow itself commented on this post and even wrote a favorable blog post on our summary.

According to his blog post (quote);

And so occasionally, but infrequently, I feel like someone actually understood what I said.

I felt like my objective to give the money’s worth was finally appreciated when I read that I…

In this way, I thank you Craig and am happy to have given something back.
